Instructor: Lindsey Peterson, MSW, LICSW 

 Lindsey Peterson is a licensed clinical social worker and owner of Liv Family Services. Her clinical work focuses extensively on adult ADHD, including ADHD assessment, diagnosis, education, and therapy. She provides ADHD-focused education and consultation to behavioral health professionals and has experience supporting adults whose ADHD presentations have previously been overlooked or attributed to other mental health concerns.

ADHD isn’t just something I treat—it’s something I live. 
 
For most of my life, I didn’t realize I had ADHD. I was just diagnosed in 2024, and that moment changed everything. Suddenly, my struggles, my strengths, and the way I move through the world made so much more sense. Since then, my husband and two sons have also been diagnosed, deepening my understanding of how ADHD presents in different people.    

As a provider, I thought I understood ADHD—until my own diagnosis opened my eyes. After that, I began recognizing it everywhere. In fact, 80% of my clients ended up receiving an ADHD diagnosis, many of whom had been misdiagnosed or overlooked for years.    

This discovery has transformed both my personal and professional life. My daily struggles have significantly improved as I’ve learned more, and I’m passionate about educating other providers so they can better serve their clients. ADHD awareness changes lives—I’ve seen it firsthand.    

That’s why I created this workshop: to equip therapists, coaches, and healthcare providers with the knowledge and tools to spot ADHD sooner—so fewer clients have to go through life wondering what’s wrong when the answer has been there all along.

Target Audience: Social workers and other behavioral health professionals interested in improving their ability to recognize potential ADHD presentations in clinical practice. No prior specialized training in ADHD assessment is required.

Course Description

This course provides behavioral health professionals with foundational education for recognizing potential ADHD presentations in clinical practice. Participants will explore how ADHD can present across ages and genders, including presentations that may be overlooked or confused with anxiety, trauma, and other mental health concerns. The course introduces ADHD screening and assessment tools, differential considerations, and strategies for helping clients identify appropriate next steps for further assessment, diagnosis, and support.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe key ADHD symptoms in adults and children, and identify how these symptoms may present differently in women and high-functioning clients. 
  2. Apply 3–5 targeted clinical questions to screen for ADHD during therapy sessions.   
  3. Differentiate ADHD symptoms from those of anxiety, trauma-related disorders, and mood disorders using clinical examples.   
  4. Explain the referral process for ADHD diagnosis, including common assessment tools and roles of collaborating professionals.  
  5. Identify at least three practical strategies to support emotional regulation, executive functioning, and treatment adherence in clients with ADHD.

Participants will explore:

  • ADHD presentations across ages and genders 
  • Commonly overlooked ADHD presentations 
  • Differentiating potential ADHD from anxiety, trauma, and other mental health concerns 
  • ADHD screening and assessment tools 
  • Considerations for assessment and diagnosis 
  • Referral options and appropriate next steps 
  • Communicating with clients about potential ADHD and the assessment process

Completion Requirements

To receive 2 clincial continuing education credits, participants must:

  • Complete all required course modules. 
  • Complete the required post-test(s) with a score of at least 80% within three attempts. 
  • Complete the course evaluation. Email Lindsey Peterson at [email protected] after completing the post-test and evaluation and provide their first and last name and license type.

Participants who successfully complete all requirements will receive their continuing education certificate by email within 5 business days.
